Why do you do the things that you do?
If you have a job, most likely the biggest reason you go into that job everyday is because you don't want to get fired.
You have a position at that job, and you don't want to let your company or fellow employees down.
You have a job, a position, you are a part of a team. You are accountable.
What if you are not accountable? What if you don't have to do the things you do? What if you can do nothing, and stay where you are at in life?
For most people this is the case. They don't have to do anything more then what they have always done.
If you don't do different things, but expect a different result, that's a definition of insanity.
If you don't change, nothing will change.
The most important things you have to do during the day are the things you don't get done. If you are a student of the 7 Habits, by Stephen Covey you should know what I mean.
We often do the category one things, the Urgent and Important things.
But we often forget to do the category two things. The not-urgent but important things.
That's why the category two things are the most important things. Because we tend to overlook it.
This means we should spend more time, actively doing these non-urgent, important things.
These things could be reading, learning, it could be taken the time to plan your life.
It could be taken the time to come up with the decisions you've been holding off.
It might be spending time with your spouse or family.
Because these things have no urgency, and can be done anytime, these are the things we have to pay attention to most.
Doing these things, these category two things, is what separates successful people and non-successful people.
Since most people don't do category two things, and successful people do things differently, this means that successful people do category two things.
Think about it, no one is holding a gun to your head, telling you to read this book that might change your life. No one is forcing you to go back to school.
Your life isn't going to end, if you don't exercise this morning.
See you can go through life, never having to do these category two things. These things no one holds you accountable for. These are the things that no one does.
